Akula present ATS® as developed by our mentor Carolena Nerricio; the creator of American Tribal Style® belly dance and director of FatChanceBellyDance® .
After many years of training with the best ATS® belly dance teachers in the world; including Carolena Nerricio, Wendy Allen, Kristine Adams & Sandi Ball of FCBD® & Megha Gavin of Devyani, we formed Akula Tribal in May 2009 in order to share this knowledge with our own students. We believe ATS® is for everyone regardless of age, size, ability or gender. However, it is always advisable to check with your own doctor first as belly dancing can be a strenuous exercise, we also ask that you complete the following form and bring it along with you -
Akula Tribal perform at a vast array of events throughout the UK and internationally. We supported BBC Essex on their 'Ditch the Diet' Roadshows in 2010 and were with them again in September 2011 at Barleylands Essex Country Show with over 31,500 visitors. In July 2011 we danced at Planet Egypt London's premier monthly belly dance showcase. We are now looking forward to performing in March 2012 at Cues & Tattoos in Seattle, USA. We are extremely proud of our student troupe Nartakah and appear with them regularly as Akula Nartakah. ATS® performances are exciting and
unpredictable as they are totally improvised. There is no need for choreography as moves are changed through a series of subtle cues and transitions made by the lead dancers (front left position of the group & chorus). Each move has it's own unique cue; so you learn a cue and a move, followed by another cue and move, making no two performances the same. The beauty of ATS® is that you can dance with anyone else, anywhere in the world who also understands the 'language'.
AKULA ~ In Hinduism another name for the Goddess Parvati, the divine mother of the universe, the consort of Lord Shiva and mother of their sons Ganesha & Kartikeya. Inspired by her beauty, Shiva became the fountainhead of the arts, drama and dance.
