“We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts not breaths; in feelings, not in figures on a dial. We should count time by heart throbs. He most lives who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best.” ~Aristotle

I would never have thought that a holiday to Egypt in 2001 and lessons with the hotel's bellydancer would have changed my life in such a positive way!Back in the UK, I found a cabaret class locally and was truly amazed that I could move my body in ways I never thought possible! One class a week soon turned into 6 hours per week! Then 4 years ago at a hafla, I saw my first ever tribal performance and was hooked! After a brief spell learning 'Tribaret' and tribal fusion, I was completely blown away the first time I saw a FatChanceBellyDance performance on youtube. In early 2006 I found 2 fantastic
teachers in Deana & Sarah who taught FCBD ATS bellydance, my experience of dancing with them and Tribe of Kismet for over 3 years is full of fond memories that I will treasure forever. Deana has now moved on to form Tribal Unity, is still my
fantastic teacher and I feel priveleged to be able to perform (not only as Akula) but also as a member of Tribal Unity. I have been lucky enough to train with some of the best teachers in the world and share this beautiful dance form with so many amazing and inspiring people. I am now delighted to be in a position to share the knowledge that has been passed on to me with my own students. I received my General Skills (GS) Certification from Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin in Glastonbury in October 2008. I became a certified FCBD (FatChanceBellydance) Teacher on 27th August 2009 in Pori, Finland and was awarded Sister Studio status on 1st September 2009. We are now looking forward to visiting 'The Mothership'
(the FCBD Studios in San Francisco) from 22nd-29th November 2010.
Whilst there we will be taking TT2 (Teacher Training 2), some private classes with Carolena & the other FatChance ladies and generally soaking up the atmosphere of this vibrant city. Our visit should be even more special and interesting as we are there for Thanksgiving! ATS has enriched my life beyond all expectations and I am so thrilled to be able to perform for and teach it to others, along with my wonderfully talented dance partner and friend Maxine, as Akula Tribal Bellydance.

After seeing some bellydancing on holiday in 1998 I decided I wanted to learn how to do it myself and eventually found a cabaret class near to where I lived and was instantly hooked. Although I progressed to performing cabaret professionally, I have always been drawn to ATS. My first real taste was whilst travelling in North Africa and in the Sahara Desert during a winter, many many years ago. I witnessed some Bedouin tribeswomen just dancing around the fire with each other, they were really enjoying their dance and being together. That extremely powerful and strong image has always stayed with me and this is the spirit that ATS captures for me - a group of women dancing with and for each other whilst having fun. It wasn't until a few of years ago that I was lucky enough to find and begin studying under two very special teachers, Deana & Sarah of Tribe of Kismet. Deana our very lovely friend, our wonderful teacher and constant inspiration, has now moved on to form Tribal Unity and I am delighted to perform as a member with them as well as with Christine as Akula! In October 2008 I received my General Skills (GS) Certificate from Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin in Glastonbury, England, and on 27th August 2009 in Pori, Finland, I became a fully qualified FatChanceBellydance (FCBD) Certified Teacher and was awarded Sister Studio status on 1st September 2009. I have been blessed in being able to study and dance with some very accomplished and wonderful teachers and dancers along the way and would like to thank them all for enriching my life - you know who you all are.
I am now very pleased and thrilled to be able to share my knowledge and teach other like-minded people. Together with my fabulous and wonderful dance partner and friend, Christine, we are so very proud to be able to present Akula Tribal Bellydance to you.
